Protective Hairstyles – Whether you’re the type who likes your head full of luxurious curls or bone-straight, we all have a hair care ritual that we live by. Despite the climate changes (hello, global warming) we still have to make sure our hair is well protected during the cold and dry winter months, a time when our hair needs some extra TLC. Being that most of us are a professional Millennial, our daily and weekly schedules are often filled to the brim with meetings, family time, and last but not least: grooming.
Here are five tips to incorporate into your hair ritual to keep you productive:
1. THINK AND BRAINSTORM
You spend most of your day thinking: on your commute to work, in your work office, and often times, in the shower. While you’re detangling your hair strands, try combing through your weekly planner to remind yourself of meetings, conference call or events. There’s no such thing as being over-prepared.
2. HAVE A CONFERENCE CALL
Everybody who considers themselves a professional more often than not are a part of a professional team. Being apart of these teams consists of many meetings and with the advancement of technology, our time is used more wisely with virtual and group chat conference calls. Next time you’re giving your hair a deep conditioning treatment, be sure to schedule your next conference call for when you’re at home stuck under your warm heated cap and some blankets. For extra beauty TLC, include a DIY face mask, the closest you will come to having your meeting at the spa.
3. LISTEN / WATCH YOUR FAVORITE PODCAST OR RADIO INTERVIEWS
If you work in media , being on top of pop culture and entertainment can be a hassle and even a little draining. Most of us may even have kids, 9-5, or even both, which doesn’t leave us with enough time to catch up on a few laughs and sometimes important news or other information. Try making your favorite podcast and radio shows apart of your hair-care time, it will definitely keep you entertained and make the time “fly-by”.
4. LISTEN TO AN AUDIOBOOK
For all those bookworms out there this is for you. You can’t possibly read your Kindle while your washing out that deep conditioner or hot-oil treatment. What you can do is close your eyes while under the dryer or while you’re massaging your scalp as the words of your favorite author is coming through your speakers. Audiobooks aren’t only for those who are driving to work and need something to keep their patience while in traffic. They also come in handy for those of us who would rather do our hair then visit the library or local bookstore.
5. INDULGE IN NETFLIX GUILT-FREE
We all have our guilty pleasures, including the infamous Netflix. Some people are even a little ashamed to admit that majority of their free-time is spent watching movies and binge-watching sitcom series. Now there is no fear because while you’re oiling your scalp or braiding up your hair in your living room feel free to use that 1-2 hours to watch a quick flick or an episode or two from your favorite series. Turn “Netflix-and-Chill” to the new “Netflix-and Groom”.
