Indie Films -Pras Michel’s film “Sweet Micky For President” is a film festival hit . The film follows Pras Michel, Grammy award-winning rapper and founder of the hip-hop group The Fugees, as he returns to his homeland of Haiti post earthquake and finds a corrupt government in paralysis.
If you follow international politics at all you may know the corruption and confusion that has plagued the beautiful and proud people of Haiti. For many years and centuries this oasis has endured pain, strife, and challenge under the rule of their past Presidential leadership. In this independent film, Pras Michel, of the Hip-Hop super-group The Fugees, creates a movie that documents his journey with a mission to bring change to his native land.
Presidential candidate Michel Martelly aka the Haitian-sensation Sweet Micky, is controversially known for his unique stage presence and his popular Haitian pride and spirit. All of this inspires Pras to fully support Martelly on the road to president. The plot thickens when estranged band mate (The Fugees), Wyclef Jean, joins the race to become president alongside Martelly and the others.
The informational and inspiring Oscar-nominated film will take you through the Haitian and World history books in a way that you have never witnessed before. Pras takes you across the waters to Haiti and back on an adventure with cultured musicians of Hip-Hop taking political action and control for the place they love the most.
At a private screening in Soho, NYC, that took place earlier this month, Pras sends a message to Young Haitians and Haitian Americans,
“Find what resonates with you and go to Haiti, especially if you’ve never been…The country [Haiti] needs help…!”
His statement goes without saying: THE YOUNG PEOPLE ARE OUR FUTURE.
The film debuts in NEW YORK CITY at Cinema Village, November 20, 2015. You can find more information about premieres and special screening here.
